Harriers Newsletter October 2024

Welcome to the October edition of the newsletter.

Cross Country is here!

The season is in full swing with the relay races already happening. We had very successful Senior and Masters teams out the Midlands Championships last weekend!

The leagues are all about to start too but before that

Warwickshire County Championships - Saturday 14th December at Solihull Riding Club (New Venue!)

Athletes are eligible either by being born in Warwickshire or living in the county for nine continuous months.

Lots of different age races so something for everyone

Barry Yates is taking entries for u11 to u17 and Chris Hamer Hodges for senior and masters teams. Please speak to them on club nights or email comms@nuneatonharriers.org.uk and it'll get passed on.

Junior Cross Country League (WMYACC) - race two is Sunday 10th November 2024 at Newbold Revell

U11 to u17s can be entered here

If you entered race 1 you'll be automatically entered into race 2

Closing dates for race two is midnight on Thursday 7th November

Full details for the league are available here http://wmyaccl.com/

Men's Birmingham Cross Country League

Deadline for entries into race 1 is on the 25th so get in soon!

You need to be a club member and have a club vest but entry is included in your membership. This type of competition is open to all. Every place counts so the bigger the team we can get out the better!

Entry into race one gets you entered into all the fixtures and there is no commitment to run all of them so please do enter!

Chris Hamer Hodges manages this team so can field questions on club nights or email comms@nuneatonharriers.org.uk

Women's Cross Country League

First league race of the season is on 9th November at Abington Park, Northampton. We'd love to get a larger team out this season. All abilities and adult ages welcome  (17+). You need to be a club member and have a club vest but entry is included in your membership.

These events are very much "more the merrier". We've love to have you along!

If you'd like some more information email comms@nuneatonharriers.org.uk

Volunteering

We're hosting one of the Birmingham Cross Country fixtures on 30th November at Burbage Common. We'll need help with setup and marshalling and various other bits and pieces so if you're available to lend a hand it would be very much appreciated  (Speak to Nick Wilson on club nights or email comms@nuneatonharriers.org.uk)

Book Club

For a lot of runners if we're not talking about running we're reading about it!

If you followed Sifan Hassan's attempt to win 5k, 10k and Marathon gold medals at the Olympics this year it may come as a surprise to learn that it's been attempted once before by running legend, Emil Zatopek. It's not a spoiler to tell you that he won gold medals in all those events at the 1952 games. That's not the only remarkable thing about his life though and the book "Today We Die a Little: Emil Zátopek, Olympic Legend to Cold War Hero" by Richard Askwith does a fantastic job of detailing his life.
