Junior Athletics sessions cater for children from 7 years old to 13 years old
Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:15pm to 7:30pm
The sessions for young athletes are based on the award-winning Athletics365 programme. Small groups, split by age (7-10 year old and 11-12 year old) are led by experienced coaches who will work through the programme, progressively building skills and confidence.
The sessions are suitable for children of all skill levels from beginners to those who have already taken part in introductory athletics programmes, holiday courses or school competitions. The programme covers running, jumping, throwing and fundamental movement skills; these are skills useful for all sports, not just athletics.
Ages 7 - 10
Children will have the opportunity to practice and become familiar with the basic techniques involved in running, jumping and throwing events. Enjoyment and having fun are the key factors in this age group. As the sessions progress, we introduce additional technical aspects to the athletics activities and continue to build on the foundations of good technique, enjoyment and a healthy lifestyle.
Children should begin to demonstrate their development and aptitude for various events with increased confidence, enjoyment and enthusiasm. There will be more focus in improving performance and an introduction to some of the competitive elements of athletics
Each term is usually 16 weeks long (Sept-Dec, Jan-Apr, May-Aug); induction for new starters is at the beginning of each term (and mid-term if spaces are available). Athletes can sign up to attend on Tuesdays, Thursdays or both days throughout the term.
As places are limited priority will be given to club members, children of club volunteers and siblings of existing members. If places are over-subscribed you can ask to join a waiting list.
Please note due to insurance conditions we cannot take children under 7 years of age in these
